The thing worked out of the box and is certainly capable of showing a number relating to the speed of the tennis ball. Just how accurate the radar is a good question, but in case anyone is interested there are some ways to compare it to something you actually trust, I guess. Internet search revealed the accuracy is around 4-5 mph, which is quite good in my view.
I use it like e.g. a bathroom scale: it shows tendencies, not perhaps the true value. I would say it is a good thing to have because it helps progress indeed.
